MIES VAN DER ROHE EXHIBITION - Piazza SS Annunziata

School project made during 6th semester, Exterior Design II.

In relation to a fictive design exhibition about Ludwig Mies van der Rohe held inside of Ospedale degli Innocenti, Florence, Italy, a big black and mysterious glass cube was designed in order to create awareness of the exhibition.

The design of the cube was based on the combination of Filippo Brunelleschi’s geometric principles used for the external part of Ospedale degli Innocenti, facing Piazza SS Annunziata, in which the cube was to be located, and the design of Mies van der Rohe’s Barcelona Chair, making the cube highly representative for the exhibition and clearly communicate its topic.

By the size of the cube and use of black glass, people should become curious to enter and discover what is inside of it, as this would not be possible from the outside.

What would be revealed for the visitors inside the cube is two white Barcelona Chairs hanging high above ground. The curiosity of the actual exhibition inside of Ospedale degli Innocenti would hereby be further enhanced, as visitors of the cube are not being presented any new information or knowledge about Ludwig Mies van der Rohe.
